Here at MKSkin clinic, Milton Keynes, we offer treatment for acne scars. Treatment depends on the type of scars. At MKSkin clinic, we offer treatments like microneedling (dermapen treatment) or deep chemical peels like TCA or TCA CROSS (Chemical reconstruction of skin scars).

What is dermapen or microneedling treatment?

Dermapen is a type of micro-needling used to boost collagen formation and improve depressed or atrophic acne scars or other scarring. It is also used for skin rejuvenation. Microneedling is a process carried out with a dermapen that is covered with numerous tiny needles. Dermapen makes pin-point punctures into the dermis. Your body perceives this as injury, which triggers the release of growth factors, that in turn, stimulates the production of elastin and collagen and helps to improve the appearance of acne scars.

According to the research, microneedling results in a significant increase in level of collagen type I, III, and VII, newly synthesized collagen and elastin. This percutaneous collagen induction leads to an overall youthful appearance of the skin by reducing fine lines, reducing pore size, improving scars and increasing skin suppleness and elasticity.

Dermapen (microneedling) can be conducted safely on all skin types.

Dermapen treatment helps to improve the following skin conditions:
– Scars, especially indented acne scars, surgical scars and injury scars.
– Lack of skin radiance, Loss of elasticity and epidermal thickness.
– Rough and uneven skin texture, fine lines,
– Open pores.

You are not eligible for Derma pen if the following applies to you:
– You suffer with active pustular acne, active bacterial, active viral (cold sores or singles) or fungal infections.
– Eczema and psoriasis.
– Keloid scars, warts, collagen vascular disease.
– Patients with blood clotting problems and cardiac abnormalities.
– Actinic (solar) keratosis, Immunosuppression.

TCA (deep chemical peel):
Here at MKSkin clinic, Milton Keynes, we also offer deep chemical peels like TCA peel for the treatment of acne scars.

TCA CROSS for acne scars:
Here at MKSkin clinic, we offer TCA CROSS for the treatment of deep acne scars. In this technique high concentration of trichloroacetic acid is focally applied on the atrophic acne scars to induce inflammation, this is followed by production of new collagen and remodelling of existing collagen to fill in the acne scars. This results in a significant improvement in the appearance of depressed (atrophic) scars, just after 1-3 treatment sessions. Other advantage of this treatment is that the treatment is localised to the scars only and not the unaffected skin. All our treatments are carried out by qualified and experienced doctors.
